We had an amazing time performing at Tanya Taylor’s Spring/Summer 2013 presentation at the MoMa. She is absolutely one of our fave designers and people!
When discussing the musical inspiration with Tanya, imagery included a 60s girl glam vacation, sitting on the patio of a fancy hotel, and as usual with Tanya, something quirky. References included YouTube videos of clips from The Graduate, Astrud Gilberto, and the song The Girl from Ipanema. We wanted to capture the easiness of summer and create something memorable. We were lucky to be able to have the Bossa nova-inspired score composed by Mary Kouyoumdjian, who was a dream to work with. She was quick and creative, and even stepped in to conduct the day of the show. Brazilian percussionist Bruno Esrubilsky topped off our Bossa nova ambitions with some sweet grooves on the cajon.
